Higher Education Scholarship Application

Each year, the Young Women's Alliance Foundation awards $2,500 scholarships to women enrolled in graduate school or their junior or senior year of college. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated financial need, commitment to community service, academic achievement and leadership potential. Recipients will be chosen in the spring and funds will be dispersed for use during either the fall or spring semester of the upcoming school year, to be selected by the recipient. Recipients must participate in a Community Impact Project during the semester they receive the scholarship money. YWA is an organization run entirely by its members. There are no paid positions associated with YWA, the YWA Foundation, or its Board of Directors. YWA and the YWA Foundation depend on committees to plan and execute events and handle all administrative duties. YWA Fundraising Campaign

The Young Women's Alliance Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created by the Young Women's Alliance in 1997 to empower and support women in the pursuit of their educational and career goals. We currently support several organizations in the Austin area and give out three types of scholarships to outstanding women and girls in Central Texas. This year (2011-2012) the Foundation is slated to award $37,500 in grants and scholarships, which will include: Six $2,500 Higher Education Scholarships Five $1,000 Young Leaders Scholarships Five $2,500 Sunshine Camps Scholarship One $5,000 Grant to a Partner Organization This Individual Fundraising Campaign will allow the YWA Foundation to give scholarships to deserving individuals and grants to organizations that share our vision. I was able to make connections, meet new friends, learn about Austin's non-profit community, and socialize with other people who have similar career interests. Operations

The Operations Committee is responsible for managing the administrative duties within the organization.

Responsibilities include:

Collecting board reports and distributing information at each board meeting
Keeping attendance at board meetings
Acting as a parliamentarian at meetings, enforcing “Roberts Rules of Order”
Recording and publishing all meeting minutes and meeting notices in a timely fashion
Distributing phone list to Board of Directors
Updating YWA bylaws document when necessary
Assisting Historian in maintaining YWA’s historical information
Updating Web site as needed on a regular basis
Reporting new members on a regular basis to Membership Committee and Buzz Chair
Acting as Moderator for the YWA Buzz
Maintaining YWA Scrapbook
Maintaining YWA Job Board
Providing Board and committee members with nametags on an annual basis
